Why would I need to erase my hard drive?

- Are you preparing to sell, donate or give away your personal computer? Imagine all the data ever stored on it... Credit card numbers, email address books, financial data, legal documents, website passwords, personal letters or documents, personal photos of friends and families, social security numbers, software license keys, even your own name and contact information.
- The wrong intentions and the proper skills are all someone needs to access the data from your hard drive, even if the drive has been removed from the computer or resold through a computer dealer.

But isn't trashing my files or reformatting the drive enough?

- Absolutely not. Even after sending a file to the Recycle Bin in Windows, the file still exists on the drive in it's entirity. Deleting a file in windows only makes the computer forget the file ever existed. It can remain on the hard drive indefinitely if it is never overwritten with new data.
- Even reformatting a drive only deletes the the directory of files, not the files themselves leaving you vulnerable.

What does Tallyn's Drive Erasing Service do differently?

- At Tallyn's we have invested in hardware based solutions - not software ones.
- This means that our process actually does more than just erase the directory of files on the drive. We actually write new, random and meaningless information to every bit of storage space on the drive.
- We can confidently erase data from Host Protected Areas on the drive that are frequently skipped over by formatting processes or software based solutions.
- We can erase drives from any operating system - Windows, Mac OS, Linux, even home-brews.
- We can erase drives faster with hardware based solutions than software ones which means less turnaround time for you.

What about Department of Defense specifications? Does this process meet them?

- Absolutely. Our hardware based solution is as good as it gets without a degaussing machine or other destructive methods.

Will my data be recoverable after the erasing process?

- After putting your drive through Tallyn's Drive Erasing Service, you can be assured that only a multi-million (multi-billion?) dollar laboratory would ever be able to recover any portion of your data.

Will my drive still be usable after the erasing process?

- Yes, our process only destroys the existing data. You can safely re-use the drive in a new computer or sell it without any security concerns.
